New Leadership on the Horizon for Marrakech Greater Cooperation Council

The Governor of the Marrakech-Safi region has issued an official invitation to the members of the Marrakech Greater Cooperation Council, calling for a session to elect a new president for the institution. This call comes in the wake of the previous president, Mohamed Chaqiq, ceasing his duties, an event that necessitated this crucial meeting.

According to official reports, this assembly is convened following the provincial decision number 1709, issued on May 12, 2026, which confirms the president's discontinuation of duties. This action aligns with the provisions of the Organic Law No. 113.14 concerning regional councils and their governance.

During the nomination phase, the name of Noah Khafif, the candidate from the Authenticity and Modernity Party, has emerged as one of the leading contenders to take the helm of the council in the upcoming term. Alongside him, Mohamed Najib Khalidi, representing the Istiqlal Party, is also in the running for this significant leadership position.

This electoral event is taking place amid a notable political and organizational dynamism within various elected institutions in the region. The Marrakech Greater Cooperation Council plays a pivotal role in coordinating and managing joint projects and services among the local authorities in Marrakech and its surrounding areas.
