Strategic Development of Water Infrastructure
The Casablanca-Settat Regional Multi-Service Company (SRM) is actively engaged in enhancing the region's water infrastructure to meet the rising demand for potable water. In a decisive move aimed at bolstering the resilience of the water supply network, SRM has initiated the construction of two new water storage reservoirs in Jorf Lasfar, located in the El Jadida province. These reservoirs, with a combined capacity of 45,000 cubic meters, are designed to complement the existing storage framework linked to the local desalination plant.
Investment and Impact on Water Supply
This initiative is part of a broader investment program dedicated to securing the supply of drinking water throughout the region. The first reservoir will hold 30,000 cubic meters, while the second will accommodate an additional 15,000 cubic meters. These new facilities are expected to significantly enhance the storage capacity and ensure a more reliable supply of desalinated water, which is crucial for meeting the needs of the southern Casablanca area. Currently, the desalination plant in Jorf Lasfar is responsible for providing approximately 60 million cubic meters of potable water annually. The project represents a substantial investment of nearly 137 million dirhams, with a planned completion timeframe of 12 months. Such developments are not only vital for maintaining service continuity but also for improving the region's overall water resource management, especially in light of ongoing pressures on water supplies.
