Nexus Core Systems to Invest $1.29 Billion in AI Factory in Morocco

Nexus Core Systems, a prominent player in AI infrastructure, has announced a significant investment initiative in Morocco, committing MAD12 billion (approximately US$1.29 billion) to establish an advanced AI factory in the country. This announcement was made during the GITEX Africa 2026 event held in Marrakesh, where an official Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed with various Moroccan government entities, including the Ministry of Digital Transition and Administrative Reform, the Ministry of Investment, Convergence and Evaluation of Public Policies (MICEPP), and the Moroccan Agency for Investment and Export Development (AMDIE).

The MoU outlines a comprehensive plan that encompasses the development of a high-performance computing (HPC) data center, a center of excellence dedicated to high-value services and skill development, and an innovation hub aimed at nurturing emerging solutions while enhancing the AI digital ecosystem in Morocco. Jaap Zuiderveld, the CEO of Nexus Core Systems, emphasized the transformative nature of the Nexus AI Factory, stating, "With the Nexus AI Factory, we're not just deploying a high-performance infrastructure – we're creating an integrated ecosystem." This ambitious project is set to unfold in two phases, commencing in 2027, with the first phase located in Nouaceur featuring an IT load capacity of 16MW, followed by a second phase in Northern Morocco that will add another 20MW capacity.

For the execution of this project, Nexus plans to allocate MAD5 billion for the first phase and MAD7 billion for the second phase, with both phases being designed to operate entirely on renewable energy, thanks to a strategic partnership with TAQA Morocco. In addition, Nexus has indicated that it will collaborate with key industry players, including Nvidia and global investment firm Lloyds Capital, to ensure the project's success. This development comes nearly a year after Nexus, alongside Nvidia, Lloyds Capital, and the Korean AI firm Naver, formed a consortium aimed at creating a 500MW data center in Morocco to provide sovereign AI computing services throughout the EMEA region.
