Official Launch of the First 'Museum of Morocco' Labels

The National Museum Foundation (FNM) officially awarded the inaugural 'Museum of Morocco' labels to five distinguished museum institutions on March 11, 2026, during a ceremony held at the Mohammed VI Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rabat. This significant event marks a pivotal moment in the recognition and certification of museums across Morocco.

The honored institutions include the Nejjarine Museum of Wooden Arts and Crafts in Fez, the Bank Al-Maghrib Museums located in Rabat and Marrakech, the Museum of African Contemporary Art A-Maaden (MACAAL) in Marrakech, as well as the Yves Saint Laurent Museum and the Pierre Bergé Museum of Berber Arts. These labels are a testament to the commitment of these establishments to uphold the highest standards in the preservation, management, and promotion of their collections, with the certification being valid for a renewable period of four years.

According to Mehdi Qotbi, president of the FNM, this initiative opens up "new perspectives for aligning Moroccan museums with international standards" and enhances the promotion of the national heritage. The recognition received by the distinguished institutions was met with appreciation from their representatives, who acknowledged the importance of this certification in acknowledging their hard work and dedication.

Saida Lamrani, president of the Mohammed-Karim-Lamrani Foundation and representative of the Nejjarine Museum, highlighted the restoration work in the Nejjarine district, which symbolizes Morocco's rich cultural heritage. Othman Lazraq, representing MACAAL, expressed that this distinction crowns a decade of the museum's commitment to the artistic scene. Madison Cox, president of the Jardin Majorelle Foundation and representative of the Yves Saint Laurent and Pierre Bergé museums, also recognized this label as a potential encouragement for other institutions to contribute to the cultural prominence of the Kingdom.

The FNM's initiative aims to enhance the quality of Moroccan museum institutions and support the valorization of national heritage, particularly as Morocco seeks to solidify its cultural presence on the international stage. The 'Museum of Morocco' label operates within the legal framework established by Law No. 56-20 regarding museums, as well as Law No. 55-20, which amends and complements Law No. 01-09 related to the creation of the FNM.
