Oracle Unveils New Cloud Region in Casablanca
In a significant move to enhance its cloud services across Africa, Oracle has officially launched a public cloud region in Casablanca, Morocco, as of April 7, 2026. This development marks a pivotal step in Oracle's efforts to expand its footprint in the African market, particularly in North Africa, where it aims to provide robust cloud solutions to local businesses and organizations. The announcement of this new region follows initial plans disclosed in March 2024, although documentation from Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) indicates that one availability domain within this region was operational as early as late February.
Hosting Partnership and Future Plans
The Casablanca cloud region is hosted in collaboration with N+One Datacenters, a prominent data center operator in Morocco, which boasts a total IT capacity of 4.5 MW spread across six facilities in the country. These facilities are strategically located in Nouaceur, a suburb of Casablanca, and Settat, situated between the capital, Rabat, and the vibrant city of Marrakech. Cormac Watters, Oracle's executive vice president and general manager for EMEA, emphasized that the launch of the Casablanca cloud region is a major milestone in Oracle's commitment to supporting Morocco's growth as a regional hub for artificial intelligence and digital innovation. He stated, "With the Oracle Cloud Casablanca Region, we are equipping organizations throughout Morocco and North Africa with the secure and high-performance infrastructure necessary to innovate with AI and the cloud, thereby enhancing their competitiveness on a global scale." Furthermore, Oracle has plans to establish a second region in Settat, although a specific timeline for this expansion has yet to be disclosed. In addition to the new Casablanca region, Oracle operates an existing cloud region in Johannesburg, South Africa, and is preparing to launch another in Nairobi, Kenya, with iXAfrica as the hosting partner for that location.
