Significant Investment in Healthcare Infrastructure
In a pivotal step towards reforming Morocco's national healthcare system, Amine Tehraoui, the Minister of Health and Social Protection, presided over a crucial meeting alongside Said Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region. This meeting focused on the comprehensive project for the reconstruction of the Hassan II Regional Hospital in Agadir. Originally established in 1961, this facility no longer meets the modern demands for healthcare services, particularly regarding infrastructure and the quality of patient care.
The ambitious project will lead to the development of a state-of-the-art hospital that adheres to current health standards. It aims to provide enhanced bed capacity and cutting-edge medical equipment. The new facility will be constructed on the existing site and will feature a modern design with four levels, accommodating between 415 and 450 beds. It will also see advancements in emergency services and oncology departments. The total investment for this initiative is approximately 1.1 billion dirhams, representing a significant leap forward in improving healthcare access and service quality for the residents of the region.
Ensuring Continuity of Healthcare Services
To facilitate the initiation of reconstruction work, the hospital will temporarily close its doors at the end of March 2026. In order to maintain continuity of care during this period, the Ministry of Health has established a patient guidance system. Emergency cases, pregnant women in labor, and individuals requiring hospitalization will be directed to the Mohammed VI University Hospital in Agadir. Routine medical consultations and examinations will continue at the hospital's day clinic, which has been equipped to ensure optimal conditions for patients. Additionally, local health centers will remain operational, providing essential services and directions to the community.
The Ministry has taken comprehensive measures to ensure that all regional health structures are mobilized effectively to sustain services under safe and coordinated conditions. Furthermore, a reorganization of healthcare personnel will be undertaken to ensure that their rights are fully respected. The Ministry of Health and Social Protection reiterates that these initiatives are vital to the successful reconstruction of a modern healthcare establishment that meets the expectations of the Souss-Massa residents and contributes to enhancing the quality of health services. The Ministry also extends its gratitude to the community for their understanding and cooperation during this transition.
