Significant Investment in Moroccan Cinemas
The Moroccan Cinema Support Committee has allocated an impressive budget exceeding 12.8 million dirhams in its first session of 2026. This financial support aims to enhance the quality of cinema spaces, modernize existing facilities, and expand the network of cinemas across various cities in Morocco. The committee convened on July 21, 2026, at the Moroccan Cinema Center in Rabat, where it meticulously reviewed applications that met the necessary legal and administrative requirements.
As a result of this review, two new cinema projects in Casablanca were approved for funding, specifically the "Synergy Ain Sebaa" and "Empire" cinemas, with each project receiving a financial boost of four million dirhams. In addition to new constructions, the committee also focused on updating current venues, awarding 575,000 dirhams to the "Alcazar" cinema in Tangier for renovation and enhancement work.
The initiative particularly emphasizes the digitization of cinema halls, allocating three million dirhams to the "Megarama City Mall" in Tangier, which features eight cinema screens. Furthermore, funding of 650,000 dirhams was designated for both the "Alcazar" cinema in Tangier and the "Al-Nahda" cinema in Rabat to upgrade their technical equipment and keep pace with the digital transformation impacting the film exhibition sector.
Chairing this session was Mohamed Khouna, alongside committee members including Samira Al-Haymer, Rabha Ahrradhan, Hanan Tiyatabin, Mariam Abu Naoum, Ahmad Al-Ghamam, Abdullah Zirat, and Jawad Babaili. This gathering underscores the ongoing commitment to implement support programs aimed at developing the cinematic infrastructure in the Kingdom and enhancing the quality of exhibition spaces.
