In an impressive start to the 2026/2027 academic year, over 333,000 students have enrolled in schools under the jurisdiction of the Marrakech prefecture. This enrollment includes more than 133,000 students in primary education, over 89,000 in secondary college education, and upwards of 57,000 in qualifying secondary education. This substantial influx of students marks a crucial moment for the local education system and reflects ongoing efforts to improve educational access and quality in the region.

Preparations and Initiatives for a Successful School Year

Moha Ait Mellouk, the provincial director of the Ministry of National Education, Preschool, and Sports in Marrakech, provided insights into the preparations for the new school year during a statement to the MAP. He highlighted that this academic year will see the implementation of various measures and arrangements by the provincial authority. These include the provision of necessary equipment to schools, particularly to the 'Pionniers' secondary colleges, which are designed to foster innovation in educational practices.

In addition to infrastructural improvements, several communication meetings have been held to introduce new school programs, particularly within the 'Pionniers' institutions, thus ensuring that both teachers and students are well-prepared for the changes. Ait Mellouk emphasized that classes will officially commence on September 7, following diagnostic assessments that will take place until September 12. He underscored the importance of mobilizing and encouraging students to attend school promptly on the first day to ensure a smooth start to the academic year.

Moreover, Ait Mellouk discussed further measures taken regarding human resources, which include finalizing various personnel movements, assigning new staff, and addressing any surplus or deficit needs. These steps are essential to ensure that all necessary infrastructure, logistical support, and human resources are in place for the effective operation of schools at the start of the academic year. He also urged parents to accompany their children during this crucial transition back to school.

It is worth noting that the school year began on Thursday for preschool students, as well as for first and second-year primary students, first-year college students, and students in common branches of qualifying secondary education. The following day saw third and fourth-year primary students, second-year college students, and first-year baccalaureate students returning to their classes. The enrollment process continues on Saturday, welcoming fifth and sixth-year primary students, third-year college students, and second-year baccalaureate students.

These days dedicated to welcoming students and their parents align with the ministry's guidelines for organizing the school year’s start, providing an excellent opportunity to familiarize families with the schools and prepare students for the official start of classes next week, which will also be focused on diagnostic evaluations.
