Overshoot AI: Revolutionizing Real-Time AI Vision
Growing up in Agadir, Morocco, Zakaria and Younes El Hjouji have traversed an impressive journey that has taken them from their hometown to the prestigious halls of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT). Their experiences at renowned companies like Uber, Meta, and Intel have equipped them with the skills and insights necessary to embark on an ambitious venture. Recently, they successfully joined the ranks of Y Combinator, a celebrated startup accelerator, with their innovative company, Overshoot. This startup is poised to set a new standard in the realm of real-time AI vision, aiming to create a robust infrastructure that transcends existing capabilities.
Overshoot allows users to connect to a video source and issue simple commands such as 'detect intrusions' or 'count vehicles.' The platform promises to deliver real-time responses at the speed of the video feed, achieving this in under 200 milliseconds. This speed is touted as being ten times faster than any current inference platform available in the market. However, the simplicity of the user interface belies the complex engineering challenges that underpin the technology. While artificial intelligence has made significant strides in interpreting images and videos, the task of processing and responding to video streams in real-time presents a distinct challenge.
Younes El Hjouji elaborates on this complexity by explaining the fundamental differences between text and video processing. Text is composed of discrete words, each carrying its own meaning, which AI can easily analyze. In contrast, video consists of a continuous sequence of images—often 30 frames per second—that are frequently similar to one another. This intrinsic nature necessitates a radically different approach to processing and computational power allocation. To empower AI with real-time vision capabilities, a novel infrastructure must be developed—one that diverges from the traditional systems used for chatbots and other applications. This is precisely the innovative solution that Overshoot is creating, boasting a community of over 300 developers already engaged on its platform.
