Peru Introduces Visa Waiver for Moroccan Nationals
In a significant move aimed at fostering international tourism, the Peruvian government has officially exempted citizens of Morocco from the requirement of a tourist visa for entry into Peru. This decision, which applies to holders of valid ordinary passports from Morocco, will allow those who possess either a Schengen visa or a visa from the United States to visit Peru without the need for an additional visa. The new regulation was formalized through Supreme Decree No. 033-2026-RE, which was published in the Legal Norms Bulletin of the Official Gazette, El Peruano.
The decree stipulates that Moroccan nationals can stay in Peru for a maximum period of up to one hundred eighty-three (183) calendar days, which can be either as a continuous visit or through multiple consecutive visits within a year. Furthermore, it is important to note that Moroccan passports and the aforementioned visas must have a minimum validity of six (6) months at the time of entry into the country. This change is expected to enhance travel and promote cultural exchange between Morocco and Peru, reflecting a broader commitment to strengthening diplomatic ties.
In 2017, Morocco had already lifted visa requirements for Peruvian citizens, indicating a reciprocal approach to fostering easier travel between the two nations. The current measure represents a continued effort by both countries to improve accessibility and encourage tourism, with potential benefits for their economies and cultural relations.
