PJD Unveils New List of Candidates for Local Elections
In a significant announcement, the General Secretariat of the Justice and Development Party (PJD) disclosed yesterday a new list comprising 15 candidates who will represent the party across various electoral districts. This selection is part of the preparations for the upcoming parliamentary elections scheduled for September 23, 2026. The newly nominated candidates include prominent figures such as Mohamed Lamine Daida representing Laayoune, Khaled Bouqrai for Taza, and Khaled Meidan from Larache. Other candidates on the list include Mohamed Moufidi from Moulay Rachid in Casablanca, Ahmed Boukhabra for Tetouan, and Mohamed Toufla representing the Menara district in Marrakech, among others.
The decision was made following a meeting of the PJD’s General Secretariat, chaired by Secretary-General Abdelilah Benkirane, approximately a week ago. A statement issued and obtained by "Akhbarona" confirmed that the selection of candidates was conducted through a secret ballot. The party plans to finalize candidates for additional local and regional electoral districts in the near future. Earlier meetings had already resulted in the selection of 40 candidates for local lists in preparation for the elections.
This latest candidate list has sparked discussions regarding the representation of women in the electoral process, especially considering past commitments made by the party regarding women's rights and equality during their previous government tenure.
