Prince Moulay El Hassan Inaugurates the Mohammed VI Tower in Rabat
On April 13, 2026, under the directive of King Mohammed VI, Crown Prince Moulay El Hassan officially inaugurated the Mohammed VI Tower, a significant architectural addition located on the right bank of the Bouregreg River in Rabat. This landmark structure stands at an impressive height of 250 meters, featuring 55 stories that dramatically reshape the skyline of Morocco's capital.
The ceremony was marked by the presence of several dignitaries, including the governor of the Rabat-Salé-Kénitra region, Mohamed Yacoubi, and Othman Benjelloun, CEO of O Capital Group, the firm behind the project. The Crown Prince engaged in a comprehensive tour of the tower, which included a detailed overview of its main lobby where he was presented with the architectural features and local artisanal materials incorporated into the building's design.
During his visit, the Crown Prince also explored a model apartment, the luxury Waldorf Astoria hotel, and an observatory that offers panoramic views of Rabat and Salé. This observatory allows visitors to appreciate the historical significance of the twin cities, featuring ancient walls, kasbahs, and gates that narrate their rich heritage.
The Mohammed VI Tower not only serves as a luxury hotel and office space but also includes residences, a conference hall, retail shops, and restaurants, all accessible via 36 elevators. Its construction is designed to withstand seismic activity and flood risks, boasting deep foundations that extend 60 meters into the ground. This engineering approach ensures the tower's long-term stability in a geotechnically challenging environment.
To enhance comfort and safety, the tower is equipped with a harmonic damper system that mitigates vibrations caused by wind and seismic events, ensuring a stable living environment for its upper-floor residents. Furthermore, the design integrates two distinct facades—one featuring dynamic lighting and the other utilizing photovoltaic panels—highlighting the project's commitment to eco-friendly construction practices and advanced technologies that improve energy efficiency.
In addition to its energy-efficient features, the Mohammed VI Tower incorporates sophisticated systems for energy recovery and rainwater harvesting, earning it prestigious LEED Gold and HQE certifications. These accolades position the tower among the most innovative and high-performing structures in Africa.
Upon his arrival, the Crown Prince was honored with a display from a section of the Royal Guard, symbolizing the importance of the event. The inauguration of the Mohammed VI Tower represents not only a significant architectural achievement but also a step forward in Morocco's development and modernization efforts.
