Protests Emerge in Casablanca Health Sector Due to Administrative Silence
The healthcare landscape in the Casablanca-Settat region is becoming increasingly tense as the regional office of the National Union of Public Health, affiliated with the Democratic Federation of Labor, has announced plans for a warning sit-in at the headquarters of the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection on Tuesday, August 4, 2026. This protest is prompted by what the union describes as a persistent pattern of unilateral management and a lack of serious social dialogue with professionals within the sector.
In a statement received by "Alyaoum 24," the union emphasized that the decision to escalate their actions came after exhausting all channels for dialogue and communication with regional and provincial officials. They expressed that the ongoing silence and neglect regarding pressing issues affecting healthcare workers in the region have forced them to take this protestive step.
The union criticized the management approach concerning the establishment of the Regional Emergency Medical Assistance Service (SAMU), accusing the Regional Directorate of Health and Social Protection of adopting a one-sided approach in developing this initiative without involving social partners at various stages. This project is deemed vital for organizing healthcare services and improving the working conditions of those in the sector.
Concerns were raised about the troubling situation in the Ben M'Sik district, where the union claims there is ineffective administrative management and growing tensions within healthcare institutions, alongside what they describe as targeted actions against union activism. The union also noted ongoing pressure on union activists in the Nouaceur region, particularly following a previous warning sit-in organized on June 18, 2026.
Furthermore, the statement highlighted the conditions at the regional hospital in Mohammedia, asserting that the current management practices have exacerbated issues related to healthcare services and working conditions within the institution.
