Rabat Welcomes the 18th International ASONAM Conference

From August 27, 2026, Rabat is playing host to the 18th International Conference on Advances in Social Network Analysis and Mining (ASONAM). This pivotal event, taking place at the National School of Mines of Rabat (ENSMR), is assembling researchers, academics, PhD students, and specialists from various countries to delve into the realms of artificial intelligence (AI), data science, and cybersecurity. This year’s edition is particularly significant, marking the first time ASONAM has been organized on the African continent since its inception in 2009 in Athens. This choice reflects the increasing prominence of Africa in the fields of scientific research, innovation, and digital transformation.

Enhancing Global Dialogue and Technological Advancements

Omar Assouaddi, the Director General of ENSMR, emphasized the international acclaim that ASONAM has garnered, evolving into a major platform for discussions surrounding social network analysis, data extraction, AI, and cybersecurity. The conference's agenda also highlights the connections between digital technology and energy transition. Ahmed Bouzid, the General Director of Energy Production Development at the Ministry of Energy Transition and Sustainable Development, particularly stressed the importance of AI tools and advanced data analysis in managing electrical networks and integrating renewable energies. These technologies are expected to enhance the planning of solar, wind, and green hydrogen energy projects while bolstering the resilience of energy infrastructures.

However, the digital transformation also brings forth governance challenges. Discussions at ASONAM will address issues such as digital sovereignty, privacy protection, and the necessity of incorporating ethical considerations into the development of new technologies. This aligns with the directives aimed at promoting a sustainable and decarbonized economy, as advocated by His Majesty King Mohammed VI.

The ASONAM 2026 program features 14 thematic research sessions, alongside plenary lectures, round tables, workshops, tutorials, industry meetings, and a forum dedicated to PhD candidates. Beyond facilitating scientific exchanges, the conference aims to strengthen connections between Moroccan researchers and international networks while fostering cooperation in strategic sectors such as AI, data science, and cybersecurity.
