Rafael Louzán Addresses Spain's Future in Football: 2030 World Cup and Luis de la Fuente's Continuity

Commitment to Luis de la Fuente

Rafael Louzán, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, recently spoke with 'AS' to address two critical topics concerning Spain's footballing future: the upcoming World Cup final in 2030 and the ongoing tenure of coach Luis de la Fuente. Louzán emphatically expressed his unwavering support for de la Fuente, stating, "There have never been doubts regarding de la Fuente, and now, even less so. Never. I believe you all value him in this way. His decisions and calculations have been absolutely spot on. Luis understands each match exceptionally well; moreover, he has already prepared the strategy for the next game based on what has transpired in previous encounters, and he knows how to position his players effectively. He is a master of his craft and an outstanding individual. We are thrilled with him and his entire team, who are genuine, humble, hardworking, and simply wonderful people. Football is unpredictable, but we can confidently think that de la Fuente will be around for a while. His contract reflects this as well. I had the privilege of facilitating a necessary and just renewal for him. Now, our aim is to enhance and extend our relationship with the Federation as much as possible. The process was straightforward, and I am proud of how he helped us reach a beneficial agreement. We have another historical moment approaching, as well as in 2030, and I hope Luis will be part of that milestone."

The 2030 World Cup Final and Morocco's Candidacy

Subsequently, Louzán was questioned about the second most pressing issue surrounding the Federation: the hosting of the 2030 World Cup final. He remarked on the possibility of Morocco potentially overshadowing Spain's bid, saying, "It seems that someone has a particular interest in Morocco, doesn't it? In cases like this, where we face a significant challenge such as organizing a World Cup, similar to what has been achieved here in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, we need a perfectly cohesive candidacy. We are not just one country; we represent three continents and six nations in collaboration with FIFA, and I hope the Government will also step in to help lead this candidacy, which is currently spearheaded by Spain, holding a 55% stake. Therefore, I believe there is an element here that is being discussed and will continue to be discussed, which is the matter of where the final will be held. However, this is not something we can address at this moment. I have no doubt that there are no justifiable reasons for Spain not to be the destination for the grand final of the Centennial World Cup. Hence, we will work towards this goal and strive to host the best World Cup possible, but with a completely cohesive candidacy, as we all need to come together to create the best World Cup in history, coinciding with the centenary of the tournament."
