Rafael Louzán Discusses Spain's Future in Football: 2030 World Cup and Luis de la Fuente's Tenure

In a recently published interview with 'AS', Rafael Louzán, the president of the Royal Spanish Football Federation, addressed two pivotal topics concerning Spain's footballing future: the upcoming 2030 World Cup final and the ongoing tenure of national team coach Luis de la Fuente. Louzán made it unequivocally clear that he fully supports De la Fuente's continuation as head coach. He stated, "There has never been any doubt regarding De la Fuente, and now, even less so. Never. I believe everyone is recognizing this. His decisions and calculations have been spot on. Luis interprets each match exceptionally well, and particularly given what transpired in the previous encounters, he is always prepared for the next game, knowing how to position his players effectively. He is a master in his craft and, on top of that, a truly admirable person. We are delighted with him and his entire team, who are genuine, humble, hardworking individuals, simply wonderful. Football can be unpredictable, but we can confidently say that De la Fuente is here to stay, as his contract also reflects. I had the responsibility of making the crucial, necessary, and fair renewal, and now it is our turn to enhance that relationship and extend our collaboration with the Federation. The process was remarkably smooth, and I take pride in how he helped us reach a favorable agreement at that time. We are once again facing a moment of historical significance, especially with the 2030 World Cup on the horizon, and I hope Luis can play a significant role during that time," Louzán expressed.

When questioned about the current hot topic surrounding the Federation—the potential loss of the World Cup final to Morocco—Louzán responded, "It seems like someone has a particular preference for Morocco, doesn’t it? In cases like these, where we face a monumental challenge such as organizing a World Cup, much like what has been accomplished here in the United States, Mexico, and Canada, we must present a perfectly cohesive bid. We are not just one country; we are three continents and six nations united with FIFA, and I also hope that the government will, in some way, contribute to leading this bid, which is already spearheaded by Spain with a significant 55% stake. Hence, I believe there is a critical element here regarding the discussions about where the final will be held. However, this is a topic we cannot delve into at this moment. I have no doubt that there is absolutely no justification for Spain not to be the host of the grand final of the Centennial World Cup. Therefore, we will work towards that and strive to deliver the best World Cup, but it requires a fully united bid, as we all play a crucial role in making this the best World Cup in history, coinciding with the centenary of the World Cup."
