Recent Decline of the Moroccan Dirham Against the Dollar and Euro

Moroccan Dirham Experiences New Decline Against Major Currencies

In a noteworthy development for the Moroccan economy, the value of the Moroccan Dirham has seen a significant decrease against major currencies, particularly the Euro and the US Dollar. Between March 5 and March 11, 2026, the Dirham depreciated by 0.5% against the Euro and 0.8% against the US Dollar, as reported by Bank Al-Maghrib, the central bank of Morocco. The latest exchange rates indicate that the US Dollar is now valued at 9.42 Dirhams, while the Euro stands at 10.80 Dirhams.

This decline in the currency's value follows a period where no auction operations were conducted in the foreign exchange market, according to a weekly financial report released by Bank Al-Maghrib. During this time, the average daily interventions by the bank in the financial market amounted to 153.4 billion Dirhams. These interventions included short-term loans for seven days amounting to 56.4 billion Dirhams, long-term repurchase agreements valued at 55.1 billion Dirhams, and secured loans totaling 41.9 billion Dirhams.

In terms of interbank market activity, the average daily trading volume was recorded at 3.8 billion Dirhams, with the interbank rate stabilizing at 2.25%. The ongoing fluctuations in the value of the Dirham raise concerns regarding the economic stability of Morocco, especially in light of the recent increase in the trade deficit and other economic challenges facing the nation. These currency movements are critical for businesses, investors, and consumers alike, highlighting the need for vigilance in financial planning and decision-making.
