Record-Breaking Air Traffic at Moroccan Airports: Over 18 Million Passengers in Six Months

Moroccan Airports Experience Unprecedented Growth in Passenger Traffic

In a remarkable display of resilience and attractiveness, Moroccan airports have achieved a significant milestone in air traffic for the first half of 2026. The data released by the National Airports Office (ONDA) reveals that the country's airport platforms welcomed a staggering 18,831,461 passengers from January to June, marking an impressive increase of 8.83% compared to the same period in 2025. This surge reflects not only the recovery of the aviation sector post-pandemic but also highlights Morocco's growing importance as a travel hub.

The growth in passenger traffic encompasses both international and domestic flights. Specifically, international air traffic reached 16,835,752 passengers, up by 8.86%, while domestic travel saw an increase, with 1,995,709 passengers flying within the country, representing a growth of 8.6%. Leading the charge, the Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca emerged as the busiest airport, handling 5,756,388 passengers, a commendable increase of 10.13%. Following closely are the Marrakech-Ménara Airport with 5,636,776 passengers, and Agadir-Al Massira Airport with 1,878,974 passengers.

Particularly noteworthy is the robust performance of the European market, which remains Morocco's primary air travel partner. Over 14 million passengers traveled from Europe to Morocco, reflecting a year-on-year increase of 9%. Not only did Europe demonstrate solid growth, but other regions also reported impressive figures. Air traffic from South America surged by 34.31%, reaching 53,807 passengers, while connections with Africa grew by 15.23%, totaling 971,193 passengers. North America also saw a notable increase of 15.46%, with 461,695 passengers, and Maghreb countries recorded an 11% rise, reaching 244,069 travelers.

However, not all regions experienced growth; air traffic exchanges with the Middle and Far East declined by 5.66%, summing up to 1,044,129 passengers. Throughout the first half of 2026, Moroccan airports recorded a total of 138,353 aircraft movements, reflecting an annual increase of 9.65%. The Mohammed V Airport led this statistic with 45,824 movements, followed by Marrakech-Ménara with 36,795 and Agadir-Al Massira with 12,962 movements. Additionally, air freight also witnessed a favorable trend, with a volume of 57,828.11 tonnes, which is a 12.3% rise compared to the same period in 2025.

For June alone, Moroccan airports recorded 3,116,576 passengers, showcasing a growth rate of 5.83% compared to June of the previous year. These figures are a testament to the dynamic nature of the Moroccan aviation sector and its capacity to attract a growing number of international and domestic travelers.
