Year-Long Silence from Authorities Spurs Community Action
The issue of expanding the electricity network in the Douar al-Qalay, part of the Tabouda commune in the Tounate region, has resurfaced as residents find themselves in a prolonged state of uncertainty. More than a year has passed since they submitted a petition to the relevant authorities, requesting the connection of homes that remain unserved by the electricity grid, yet they have not received any clear responses regarding the status of their appeal.
According to documents obtained by the newspaper “Al-Diyar,” the residents collectively submitted a request, complete with names and signatures from numerous citizens, to the regional directorate of the National Office of Electricity and Drinking Water – Electricity Sector, under the supervision of local authorities. Their request sought to include the homes of families without electricity service in the planned projects for network expansion.
However, as over a year has elapsed since this request was submitted without any clarification on its status, many residents have expressed their frustration and raised questions about the reasons behind this delay, particularly in light of ongoing network expansion projects in other areas. Sources indicate that the affected residents are demanding an explanation of the criteria used for scheduling electricity network expansion projects. They assert that it is their right to understand the principles that govern the prioritization and selection of beneficiary areas, which would ensure transparency and equal opportunities among different communities.
Moreover, the residents' demands extend beyond the need for expedited processing of their case; they are also calling for an administrative investigation into the management of electricity network expansion files in the region. This inquiry aims to ascertain whether any irregularities or unjustified preferences exist in project scheduling, alongside the necessary legal and administrative consequences should any violations be confirmed.
