Challenges Faced by Citizens During Eid al-Fitr
As the joyous occasion of Eid al-Fitr approaches, many Moroccans are confronted with the harsh reality of escalating transportation costs between cities. This time, which should be filled with happiness and familial connections, has instead become a source of both financial and emotional stress, particularly for those with limited incomes. Citizens have increasingly voiced their grievances regarding the imbalances plaguing the transportation sector, where illegal increases in taxi fares have become a concerning trend, blatantly defying the established price guidelines.
Among the instances that have sparked widespread discontent is the situation documented in the town of Mchirad Belkassiri. Here, some large taxi drivers have imposed an additional charge of 15 dirhams on passengers, justifying this hike by citing the rising diesel prices. Such practices, which occur with each religious occasion or public holiday, highlight the lack of stringent oversight and raise questions about the role of relevant authorities in safeguarding citizens' purchasing power and ensuring compliance with the laws governing the sector.
In light of these challenges, citizens are hopeful for prompt intervention from the appropriate authorities to curb these abuses and intensify monitoring efforts. This would ensure safe and fair transportation for all, restoring the human essence of this religious occasion, which is based on communication and compassion, rather than suffering and exploitation.
