Royal Air Maroc Expands International Reach with New Direct Route
Royal Air Maroc has officially inaugurated its first direct flight connecting Casablanca to Los Angeles, marking a significant milestone in the airline's international expansion efforts. This new route not only enhances the connectivity between Africa and the West Coast of the United States but also solidifies Morocco's strategic position as a key gateway linking Africa, Europe, and North America.
The inaugural flight, designated as AT250, departed from Mohammed V International Airport in Casablanca and arrived at Los Angeles International Airport after a journey of approximately twelve hours. Scheduled to operate three times a week, the service will utilize the Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner, a modern aircraft known for its efficiency and passenger comfort.
Casablanca as a Strategic Hub
With the launch of this new destination, Royal Air Maroc is reinforcing Casablanca's status as a pivotal hub for air travel. According to the airline's CEO, Hamid Addou, this initiative is a "historic milestone" for both the airline and the overall air connectivity of the African continent. The timing of this launch is particularly symbolic, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Morocco and the United States, as well as the upcoming 2026 FIFA World Cup, which will be hosted in North America.
The airline is strategically targeting various traveler segments, including the Moroccan and African diaspora residing in the United States, American tourists, business travelers, and attendees of major events such as the World Cup and the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles. Royal Air Maroc aims to capture an increasing share of the traffic between Africa and North America through its extensive connecting network via Casablanca.
This new route is part of a broader development plan initiated in 2023, aimed at positioning Royal Air Maroc as the leading airline in Africa. Following the introduction of additional routes to destinations like Beijing, São Paulo, and Saint Petersburg, the airline continues to pursue its ambitious strategy of international expansion.
