Royal Theater Foundation of Rabat Gains Public Utility Status

The Royal Theater Foundation of Rabat has officially been recognized as a public utility association, a significant milestone confirmed by a decree published in the official bulletin on March 2. This decree, signed by Prime Minister Aziz Akhannouch, is dated February 19 and marks a pivotal moment for this major cultural institution in the capital, Rabat.

This recognition specifically pertains to the association known as the "Royal Theater Foundation of Rabat," which is tasked with promoting and supporting the activities of this key cultural venue. With this new status, the foundation is granted specific privileges as outlined in the legislation governing recognized public utility associations. Notably, it is now authorized to hold movable and immovable property necessary for fulfilling its missions, with a maximum value limit set at one billion dirhams.

Furthermore, the decree empowers the foundation to solicit public generosity and organize fundraising activities. However, it is required to notify the relevant authorities at least fifteen days prior to any fundraising events. This provision is designed to ensure transparency and accountability in its operations.

Situated in the Bouregreg valley, the Royal Theater of Rabat was designed by the renowned Iraqi-British architect Zaha Hadid as part of the Bouregreg Valley development program. The theater was inaugurated in October 2024 by Princess Lalla Hasnaa, who was joined by France's First Lady, Brigitte Macron, for the event.

Additionally, the inaugural meeting of the Foundation's Board of Directors took place in May 2025, where the members who will guide this cultural establishment were revealed. It is noteworthy that the theater has yet to host any events since its opening, which adds to the anticipation surrounding its future programming.
