Approximately 300 Russian citizens residing in Morocco participated in the elections for the Russian State Duma, which were held at polling stations located in the Russian Federation Embassy in Rabat and the Consulate General in Casablanca. The voters included Russian nationals who are permanently residing in various regions of Morocco, as well as those temporarily present in the country.
The Russian Embassy confirmed that the elections were conducted in accordance with Russian legislation and were carried out smoothly, free from any incidents and characterized by a friendly atmosphere of mutual respect. The election marked the ninth cycle for selecting members of the lower house of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, also known as the State Duma.
Election Results and Significance of the Duma
According to official results, the "United Russia" party emerged as the clear winner in the State Duma elections, garnering over 57 percent of the votes after more than 95 percent of the ballots were counted. The "Communist Party of the Russian Federation" followed in second place with 13.81 percent of the votes. The State Duma, which comprises 450 members elected for five-year terms, serves as the main legislative and representative body in the Russian Federation. It is responsible for adopting and amending laws, approving the state budget, as well as evaluating and monitoring government plans and policies. This explains the intense competition among political parties in Russia to secure as many seats as possible, ensuring political stability and facilitating the implementation of strategic visions from the Kremlin without obstacles.
