A Pivotal Moment in Moroccan Politics
Dr. Samir Belafkih, a member of the political bureau of the Authenticity and Modernity Party, has described the extraordinary session of the party's national council held in the city of Skhirat as a historic milestone. This significance is amplified by the royal appointment of Fatima Zahra Mansouri as the Prime Minister, marking her as the first Moroccan woman to hold this esteemed position. This event not only represents a historic achievement for women in Morocco but also serves as a landmark moment for women across the Arab world.
Belafkih expressed that the council members are fortunate to witness this exceptional moment, which is not merely a noteworthy political and institutional event but also a culmination of the remarkable journey that Fatima Zahra Mansouri has undertaken over the past 18 years within the political and institutional landscape. He highlighted her extensive experience, which has included various responsibilities such as her roles as an elected official, a parliamentarian, the president of the Marrakech municipal council, and a ministerial position, in addition to her leadership within the Authenticity and Modernity Party.
Empowering Women in Leadership
He emphasized that the ascension of a woman to the position of Prime Minister underlines Morocco's commitment to empowering women to assume high-ranking responsibilities, reflecting the respect and recognition that Moroccan women have gained within political and constitutional institutions. Furthermore, the session of the national council served as an opportunity to present the latest updates regarding ongoing consultations with various political parties represented in parliament. Fatima Zahra Mansouri, as the appointed Prime Minister, is continuing this dialogue alongside her team during this initial phase.
Belafkih confirmed that the national council democratically entrusted Mansouri and her team to carry on this process until the formation of the new government by His Majesty King Mohammed VI. He expressed optimism that these consultations would lead to the establishment of a politically adept government. He insisted that the forthcoming government must embody competence, integrity, and the ability to respond to the expectations of all Moroccans, whether they participated in the elections or not, as it ultimately represents a government for all citizens, responsible for serving the public good and addressing the aspirations of diverse societal segments.
He articulated his hope that the new government would effectively meet these expectations and fulfill the commitments made to the Moroccan people, contributing to the advancement of the country and accelerating its development trajectory, ultimately realizing the ambitious vision outlined in the party's program of transitioning Morocco into a club of major nations and emerging economies.
