Major Police Operation Targets Recidivism in Girona
In a significant move to combat habitual crime, authorities have expelled seven repeat offenders from Spain, focusing on individuals who have consistently committed offenses across various towns in Girona. The National Police successfully executed the extradition of six individuals to Morocco and one to Gambia after these criminals amassed over 100 police records for various crimes. Their persistent activities had caused considerable distress among local residents, who were alarmed by the offenders' frequent comings and goings from the courts, treating them as if they were regular visits.
The operation was part of the National Police's routine efforts to expedite the extradition process for repeat offenders. To facilitate this, two flights were arranged to transport the individuals to Morocco and Gambia, with a streamlined process ensuring that the expulsion could be carried out within 72 hours. The search for these criminals was coordinated by the Provincial Brigade of Foreigners and Borders in Girona, with assistance from the Mossos d'Esquadra agents from the Girona and Santa Coloma de Farners precincts, as well as local police forces from Banyoles, Sant Hilari Sacalm, and Olot. Concurrently, judicial authorities were contacted to verify if any of these repeat offenders had pending legal matters.
Once located and apprehended, the offenders were escorted to Madrid under heavy police supervision. Upon arrival, they were grouped with other criminals from different regions of Spain and boarded a chartered flight back to their respective countries, with two police officers assigned to each individual for security. This type of operation is common as part of the strategy to tackle recidivism. Notably, in a recent similar flight, as reported by ElCaso.com, 21 repeat offenders from Peru and Colombia who were active in Barcelona and had over 170 offenses were expelled.
