Seven Schoolchildren Poisoned in Marrakech After Consuming Expired Chocolate

Serious Health Incident in Marrakech's Historic District

On Wednesday morning, a troubling incident occurred in the historic district of Marrakech, where seven primary school students suffered serious poisoning after consuming expired chocolate. The immediate need for medical attention led to their transfer to the emergency department for necessary treatment. This alarming situation has raised concerns about the safety of food sold in public spaces.

Investigation Uncovers Source of Contamination

According to sources close to the investigation, authorities from the second police district in Marrakech quickly responded to the scene at the educational institution where the affected children study. They initiated field investigations and discovered that the students had purchased the tainted chocolate from a street vendor at the nearby market known as 'Qabour Al-Shaw.' This led to the unfortunate poisoning incidents. In a subsequent sweep of the market, police apprehended a second vendor who was also selling the same expired chocolate and confiscated the products immediately. Further investigations pinpointed the primary source of these hazardous goods to a local store, which was subsequently raided, resulting in the seizure of a significant quantity of expired chocolate, cookies, and soft drinks.

These items were disposed of in coordination with the National Office for Food Safety (ONSSA). As a result of the investigations, two individuals were arrested and placed under police custody pending further inquiry, while efforts continue to apprehend two additional suspects, including the store owner believed to be involved in distributing these expired goods.
