Seventh Annual Finals of the Quran Memorization Competition
The Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars is set to hold the finals of its seventh annual competition in Quran memorization, recitation, and beautification from September 25 to 27, 2026. This event will take place virtually, originating from the historic city of Fes, with participants who qualified through local eliminations organized by the foundation’s branches across various African countries.
During the local qualifiers, which occurred from March 29 to April 26, 2026, over 1,300 contestants participated from the foundation's 48 branches. Ultimately, 114 contestants, including 16 female participants, advanced to the finals, representing their respective branches.
Over the course of three days, these qualified participants will compete for top honors in three categories of the competition. Specifically, 26 contestants will compete in the full memorization category with recitation according to the Warsh narration of Nafi, 42 will participate in the full memorization category with various readings and narrations, and 46 will vie for recognition in the Tajweed category, having memorized at least five sections of the Quran.
A distinguished panel of judges, comprising scholars and expert readers from Morocco, Senegal, Tanzania, Mauritania, Nigeria, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, the Central African Republic, Burkina Faso, and Sudan, will evaluate and score the performances of the contestants in person from Fes.
The technical coordination for the event will be managed by a central technical team in Fes, in collaboration with technical teams from the foundation's branches in all participating countries. This setup will ensure a seamless remote connection, allowing contestants to participate from their home countries while providing live coverage of the competition's various stages.
This African Quranic finale follows an elimination round characterized by an expanded participation base, with some branches conducting preliminary and regional selections before the final local stage. This approach facilitated the involvement of Quran memorizers and readers from various cities and regions, thereby enhancing the competition's visibility within local African communities.
The local qualifiers also witnessed significant engagement from African scholars, readers, Quran memorization centers, and religious and educational institutions, as they encouraged youth and children to memorize the Holy Quran and improve their recitation and Tajweed.
Through this annual African competition, the Mohammed VI Foundation for African Scholars aims to strengthen the connection of young Muslim Africans with the Holy Quran, encouraging them to memorize, recite, and beautify it.
