The Outcome of the 2026 Elections for the Progress and Socialism Party
In the recent parliamentary elections held in 2026, the Progress and Socialism Party (PPS) secured a total of 19 seats in the House of Representatives. This electoral outcome is a mix of 10 seats acquired in local districts and 9 allocated for women in regional constituencies. Notable candidates from the party who emerged victorious include Rachid Hamouni in the Boulemane district, Mariam Wahsa in Beni Mellal, Ahmed Al-Abadi in Taza, and Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzidi in Taounate-Tissa, among others. Furthermore, in the local districts, Osman Al-Marsi won in Essaouira, Abdelkhaleq Beesnati in Larache, Hassan Al-Dahram in Laayoune, and Mohamed Qasha in Tinghir.
On the regional level, women candidates also made significant strides, with Mariam Al-Kanouni winning a seat in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudiyi in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumya Mounsif Haji in Rabat-Salé-Kénitra. Additionally, Hanan Al-Soufi obtained a seat in the Eastern region, and Fatima Asouidi won in Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra. The list of female winners also includes Khadija Al-Baz in Souss-Massa, Ahlam Jeld in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fatima Zahra Barhiyoui in Fes-Meknes, and Hafida Imami in Beni Mellal-Khenifra.
Despite these victories, the results fell short of the party's expectations, which had set a target of securing at least 50 seats. This latest electoral performance indicates a decline compared to their previous standing, where they had obtained 22 seats in the elections of September 8, 2021. The reduced number of seats reflects the evolving political landscape and poses challenges for the PPS as it navigates its role in the current parliament.
