The Progress and Socialism Party's Election Results
The recent parliamentary elections in Morocco have concluded with the Progress and Socialism Party (PPS) securing a total of 19 seats in the House of Representatives for the year 2026. This allocation includes 10 seats from local constituencies and 9 from regional lists reserved for women. Among the notable candidates who won local seats are Rachid Hamouni from the Boulemane constituency, Mariam Wahsaa from Béni Mellal, and Ahmed El Abadi from Taza, alongside Abdelilah Idrissi Bouzaidi from Taounate-Tissa, Amine Bizid from El Jadida, and Fouad Karim from Khémisset and El Mase. Furthermore, the local victories extended to Othman Marsi in Essaouira, Abdelkhaleq Bissanti in Larache, Hassan Al-Dahram in Laayoune, and Mohamed Qash in Tinghir.
On the regional front, the PPS achieved significant wins with Mariam Kaniouni in the Marrakech-Safi region, Dalila Al-Oudi in Casablanca-Settat, and Soumya Mansaf Haji in the Rabat-Salé-Kenitra region, alongside Hanan Al-Soufi in the Eastern region and Fatima Asweidi in Laayoune-Sakwa Hamra. The list of successful female candidates also features Khadija Al-Baz in Souss-Massa, Ahlam Jeld in Tangier-Tetouan-Al Hoceima, Fatima Zahra Barhiyoui in Fez-Meknes, and Hafida Imami in Béni Mellal-Khenifra.
Despite these victories, the results fell short of the party's expectations, which had aimed for a minimum of 50 seats. This outcome also marks a notable decline from the previous elections held on September 8, 2021, where the party managed to secure 22 seats. The decrease in the electoral outcome raises questions about the party's current standing and strategy moving forward, especially in light of the challenging political landscape.
