PJD Highlights Flaws in Election System After Recent Legislative Elections
On September 25, 2026, the Justice and Development Party (PJD) raised significant concerns regarding the recent legislative elections held two days prior. According to the party, the results revealed "clear deficiencies" within the current electoral system, which they argue has unjustly deprived them of assured parliamentary seats. The PJD pointed out that the removal of the electoral threshold coupled with an unusual electoral quotient has hindered their chances in several local constituencies, specifically citing areas such as Skhirat-Temara, Meknes, Salé city, Salé new city, Tangier, and the southern and northern parts of Fez.
In a statement released following an extraordinary meeting of its executive board in Rabat, the PJD emphasized that the inflated number of polling stations—over 40,000—has complicated the ability of political parties to monitor all locations effectively. This surge has purportedly opened the door to various irregularities, which are challenging to document since some authorities and heads of polling stations have failed to provide immediate access to electoral reports. The party underscored that this practice blatantly violates legal requirements.
In light of these issues, the PJD announced that it intends to file direct complaints with the judiciary against the heads of polling stations who have refused to hand over copies of the electoral operation reports to representatives of the candidates. They assert that these actions constitute criminal violations punishable by law.
