Intense Heat Expected Across Various Regions
According to the latest weather advisory from the Directorate General of Meteorology, a significant heatwave is anticipated to sweep through several provinces in Morocco. This extreme weather pattern will bring with it soaring temperatures, with some areas expected to reach between 43 and 45 degrees Celsius. The provinces of Zagora, Tata, Es-Semara, Assa-Zag, Boujdour, Oued Ed-Dahab, and Aousserd are among the most severely affected regions, facing the highest temperature thresholds.
In addition, a range of 40 to 43 degrees Celsius is predicted for provinces including Youssoufia, Beni Mellal, Fquih Ben Salah, Errachidia, Khenifra, Boulemane, Chichaoua, and Guercif, as well as Taounate, Taza, Taroudant, Tinghir, and Khouribga. Other provinces, such as Settat, Kelaat Sraghna, Marrakech, Rehamna, Figuig, Jerada, Oujda-Angad, Taourirt, and Guelmim, are also set to experience similarly high temperatures.
Typically, the summer months in Morocco bring elevated temperatures, particularly in the central and southern regions. Coastal towns have similarly recorded unusually high temperatures, especially towards the end of June and the start of July. However, it wasn't until mid-July that temperatures began to drop from 38 degrees, settling between 26 and 28 degrees, particularly in Rabat.
In light of the rising temperatures, Morocco's Health Ministry has issued an urgent plea to citizens, encouraging them to minimize outdoor activities during peak heat hours. The ministry has advised individuals to dress in light clothing and refrain from strenuous activities. Furthermore, it is crucial for family members to check on the elderly and those with health conditions, ensuring they remain hydrated. Individuals displaying symptoms such as high fever, fatigue, dizziness, headaches, intense thirst, muscle cramps, confusion, drowsiness, redness, or restlessness should seek immediate medical assistance at the nearest healthcare facility.
