Sheikh Gumi Addresses Marriage Controversy and Denies Involvement in Disappearance
Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has publicly denied allegations made by Nasiru Idris, a Nigerian man who claims that Gumi interfered in his marriage and played a role in the disappearance of his Moroccan wife. In a statement to the press, Gumi asserted that the woman in question had left Nigeria and is currently residing with her parents in Morocco, asserting that there was no foul play or misconduct on his part.
Idris had previously accused Gumi of meddling in his marriage after he sought the cleric's counsel regarding marital issues. According to Idris, his wife ceased communication with him following a meeting with Gumi, leading him to believe that she might be in danger or was being held against her will. He expressed frustration over the lack of response from law enforcement to his concerns, claiming he has been unable to contact her for nearly eleven months.
In light of these allegations, Gumi threatened legal action against Idris for defamation, emphasizing that he would refrain from making further comments since the matter is currently under judicial review. Idris, in his interviews, has maintained that Gumi urged him to obtain a new marriage certificate from a Sharia court despite the couple already possessing legitimate marriage documents from both Moroccan and Nigerian authorities.
Further complicating the narrative, Malam Nasiru Ayuba, a prominent associate of Gumi, has rejected Idris's allegations, stating that the Moroccan woman voluntarily approached Gumi for assistance with personal matters. Ayuba accused Idris of attempting to tarnish Gumi's reputation through social media, as the situation continues to unfold with contrasting accounts from both parties involved. The call for a thorough investigation into the circumstances remains, with Idris insisting that a formal inquiry will clarify the truth behind his wife's disappearance.
