SIAGRO 2026: Senegal Leverages Moroccan Expertise to Enhance Poultry Industry

SIAGRO 2026: A Collaborative Effort to Boost Senegal's Poultry Sector

The 15th edition of the International Exhibition of Agro-Food Industries and Techniques (SIAGRO) commenced on April 9, 2026, at the Dakar Exhibition Center. This event has emerged as a crucial meeting point for public decision-makers, investors, industrialists, and technical partners, particularly in the context of national food sovereignty, which has become a pressing priority for Senegal. Attracting over 300 foreign delegates and around 100 exhibitors from various countries, SIAGRO serves as a platform aimed at strengthening value chains, stimulating innovation, and promoting investments within the agro-food sector.

Babacar Ngom, President of the Sedima Group, which operates in diverse areas of poultry farming, stated that "agro-industry is not an option but a necessity. It forms the core of our economic independence, job creation, and ensures our food security. However, we need to excel in integrating our value chains, technological innovation, and fostering public-private partnerships across both northern and southern hemispheres." As a pioneer in Senegalese poultry farming, Ngom emphasized the significant untapped potential within the sector, noting that despite its nascent nature, the last decade has witnessed remarkable growth. He asserted, "We must produce locally; it is not through imports that we will thrive. We need to develop a strong, dynamic sector that generates jobs and instills national pride."

Strengthening Ties with Morocco for Economic Growth

This ambitious vision is particularly resonant with the notable participation of Morocco, which aims to strengthen economic ties between the two nations. Moroccan Ambassador to Senegal, Hassan Naciri, announced a significant development during the event. He stated, "The Moroccan group Ouakkaha, present here at the request of the Minister, is committed to establishing a production unit right here in Senegal immediately. I rely on the support of the ministry to facilitate their establishment and continue this process." With over forty years of experience, the Moroccan group produces two million eggs and more than 500 chicks weekly across its 15 breeding farms.

Senegal's Minister of Agriculture, Mabouba Diagne, highlighted the magnitude of the challenge and the necessity for collective mobilization by stating, "The price of our food sovereignty is 3,000 billion CFA francs. The government cannot achieve this alone. It is through public-private partnerships that we will succeed. The 15th edition of SIAGRO is the necessary platform to unite the private sector, authorities, technical and financial partners, research entities, youth, women, and diplomatic representations." This collaborative effort underscores the importance of strategic partnerships in achieving food security and economic independence in Senegal.
