Algerian Security Forces Combat Drug Trafficking
In a concerted effort to combat organized crime, the National People's Army of Algeria, in collaboration with various security agencies, successfully thwarted multiple attempts to smuggle illegal substances from August 12 to August 18, 2026. These operations yielded impressive results, with the authorities apprehending 49 drug traffickers and seizing a substantial quantity of narcotics, including four quintals and four kilograms of cannabis resin originating from Morocco. Additionally, a kilogram of cocaine and an astonishing 1,946,091 pills of narcotic substances were confiscated. These efforts are part of a broader strategy aimed at dismantling illegal drug trafficking networks and protecting the youth from the devastating effects of drug abuse.
Ongoing Efforts Against Illegal Gold Mining and Human Trafficking
In the realm of illegal gold mining, units of the National People's Army detained 319 individuals in various regions, including Tamanrasset, Bordj Badji Mokhtar, Illizi, and In Guezzam. The operations resulted in the seizure of 29 vehicles, 112 generators, 97 jackhammers, and considerable quantities of raw gold and stone mixtures, along with equipment used for illicit mining activities. Furthermore, during separate operations, authorities arrested 11 individuals and confiscated five hunting rifles and four tons of foodstuffs intended for smuggling.
In their continued fight against illegal immigration, the coast guards intercepted attempts to cross the national shores illegally, rescuing 223 individuals aboard makeshift vessels. Additionally, 211 undocumented migrants of various nationalities were apprehended across the country. These ongoing operations underscore the National People's Army's readiness and vigilance in addressing various security threats, safeguarding the nation's borders, and ensuring public safety and stability in Algeria.
