Casablanca-Settat Experiencing a Surge in Vegetable Cultivation
The Casablanca-Settat region has witnessed a remarkable advancement in vegetable farming during the 2025-2026 agricultural campaign, with cultivated areas expanding to an impressive 56,709 hectares. This marks a substantial increase of 12% compared to the previous campaign and surpasses the initial target of 54,851 hectares. According to the Regional Directorate of Agriculture for Casablanca-Settat, the overall achievement rate stands at an impressive 103%. Notably, autumn, winter, and spring crops have all exceeded their respective objectives, with achievement rates recorded at 107%, 117%, and 106% respectively.
This positive trend can be attributed to improved climatic conditions, particularly the significant rainfall that has graced the region, revitalizing agricultural activities after several years plagued by drought. In detail, autumn vegetable farming encompassed 17,439 hectares, with potatoes leading the way, cultivated over 7,040 hectares, followed by onions at 2,920 hectares, and carrots at 2,910 hectares.
Winter crops have covered 19,386 hectares, with potatoes occupying 9,530 hectares and onions 4,550 hectares. Meanwhile, spring vegetable farming has expanded across 14,248 hectares, featuring 2,692 hectares of potatoes and 2,390 hectares of onions. The summer campaign is still ongoing, with 5,636 hectares planted thus far, achieving 59% of the projected target.
The Regional Directorate of Agriculture credits these fruitful outcomes to the dedication of local farmers and the supportive measures implemented in collaboration with various stakeholders in the sector. Continuous efforts in follow-up and technical supervision are being carried out to ensure the completion of the program and to maintain a steady supply of vegetable products to the markets.
