Significant Meat Seizure and Destruction at Fast Food Restaurant in Marrakech
On Wednesday afternoon, a mixed committee conducted a field intervention at the "Laterras" fast food restaurant located on Allal Fassi Street in Marrakech. This operation aimed to ensure the establishment's compliance with health and legal standards. The committee comprised representatives from local authorities, the municipal health office, as well as officials from the National Office for Food Safety and Civil Protection.
The inspection revealed over 50 kilograms of shawarma and roasted chicken products that were found without any invoices or documentation proving their source. Consequently, the committee took immediate action to destroy the seized quantity to safeguard consumer health.
In addition to the food safety checks, the inspection extended to the administrative aspects of the establishment. The manager was asked to provide the necessary permits and documentation for the materials used. He claimed that these documents were located at his residence, and the committee granted him a 24-hour deadline to present them, warning him of potential legal actions in case of non-compliance.
During the operation, it was also discovered that there was a second food preparation area within the restaurant that was operating without a license and had previously been subject to a closure order. An employee attempted to shut it down upon the committee's arrival, but this effort was unsuccessful.
This intervention is part of ongoing campaigns by local authorities in Marrakech to monitor fast food establishments, especially given the rising temperatures during the summer season. These operations aim to ensure compliance with hygiene standards, the safety of food products, and the traceability of their sources, taking necessary actions against violators to protect public health.
