The Spanish Sports Minister, Milagros Tolón, has firmly dismissed rumors suggesting that the final could take place in Morocco. In her remarks to the Spanish radio station Cadena Ser, Tolón expressed, "We will continue to work towards ensuring that the World Cup final takes place in Spain, as it must be." This declaration comes in response to a report from the British newspaper 'The Times,' which claimed that FIFA President Gianni Infantino promised Morocco the hosting rights for the final in exchange for the country's support in his re-election bid in March 2027, a claim that has since been denied by FIFA.

Spain's Credentials as a Host Nation

In her assertions, Tolón conveyed her confidence that FIFA would choose Spain as the venue for the final match. She highlighted Spain's stature in the world of football, noting that as the reigning champion for both men's and women's soccer, the nation holds significant weight in international sports. Additionally, she emphasized Spain's extensive experience in organizing major sporting and cultural events, backed by modern infrastructure and a secure environment. Contrary to Tolón's statements, 'The Times' reported that Infantino favored hosting the final at the Hassan II Stadium in Casablanca, which is currently under construction and has a capacity of 115,000 seats. This suggestion sparked concerns in Spain, as it would be seen as an affront not only to the nation but also to Europe, especially following recent criticisms directed at Infantino regarding a controversial investor deal that was ultimately rejected.

Following the media reports, FIFA clarified that the claims regarding promises made by Infantino were incorrect and misleading. The organization stated, "It is false and misleading to claim that the FIFA President made any promises regarding the hosting of the FIFA World Cup 2030 final. A decision will be made by FIFA in due course," as communicated to the German Press Agency.
