The Spanish security forces continue their rigorous efforts to dismantle international drug trafficking networks originating from Morocco. Recently, law enforcement in Menorca successfully dismantled a new criminal network following a six-month investigation spearheaded by the island's judicial police, as reported by various media outlets.

According to the same sources, the operation involved five simultaneous raids conducted in San Luis, Es Castell, and Ciutadella, as part of the investigations targeting the activities of this criminal network. This crackdown is particularly significant given the rising drug trafficking activities in the Balearic Islands during the summer months, prompting security agencies to intensify their operations to combat such crimes.

There has been a noticeable surge in drug smuggling to Spain recently, marked by multiple seizures of substantial quantities of cannabis from Morocco and the dismantling of international drug trafficking networks. Notably, authorities recently confiscated over a ton of cannabis in an operation near the Strait of Gibraltar.

The Spanish Civil Guard successfully seized 1,138 kilograms of cannabis in the Cala Arenas area close to Algeciras, following the detection of a suspicious boat approaching the coast via maritime surveillance systems. During this operation, the Civil Guard confiscated 29 packages of cannabis, totaling 1,138 kilograms, while investigations continue to identify all individuals involved in the operation.

In a separate operation in the capital city of Madrid, Spanish police dismantled what they described as a "mobile drug warehouse" located in a garage in the Carabanchel area. Investigators discovered approximately 13 kilograms of ketamine and 2 kilograms of cocaine hidden inside a motorcycle box, which were prepared for sale.

It is noteworthy that the Spanish National Security Department (DSN), under the government presidency, revealed in a report from mid-May 2025, a significant increase in the rate of cannabis smuggling from Morocco over the past year, which "remains the primary source of this substance in the European market."
