Strengthening Bilateral Ties: Morocco and the Netherlands Forge New Paths

Enhanced Diplomatic Relations Between Morocco and the Netherlands

In a recent press conference following discussions with his Dutch counterpart, Mr. Tom Berendsen, Moroccan Foreign Minister Nasser Bourita highlighted the significant evolution in the bilateral relations between Morocco and the Netherlands. This development aligns with the guiding principles established by His Majesty King Mohammed VI regarding the Kingdom's foreign policy, which emphasizes clarity and ambition. These principles have facilitated the establishment of robust bilateral ties grounded in mutual respect, transparency, and responsibility, fostering a genuine partnership that acknowledges the priorities of both nations.

Minister Bourita pointed out that the Netherlands' stance on Moroccan Sahara, expressed last December, marked a pivotal moment in the evolution of their bilateral relations. He noted that this constructive position aligns with international law and United Nations resolutions, particularly Security Council Resolution 2797. Furthermore, he emphasized that the Netherlands' position serves as a crucial lever for developing bilateral relations and strengthening the partnership between two influential regional actors on the international stage.

Commitment to Cooperation and Economic Partnership

Bourita also remarked on the significance of Mr. Berendsen's choice to conduct his first visit outside Europe to Morocco, which underscores the depth of the bilateral relations and the mutual commitment to prioritizing their partnership. The Kingdom of the Netherlands, as a key player in the European space and a staunch advocate for a solid Euro-Moroccan partnership, has emerged as a premier partner for Morocco in political dialogue. He noted that coordination between the two countries on regional and international matters is essential, based on shared principles of partnership in consular and judicial fields, as well as efforts to combat crime, extremism, and terrorism.

Additionally, Bourita indicated that Africa serves as a focal point in their bilateral relations, with both parties committed to encouraging Moroccan and Dutch private sectors to promote investment and seize business opportunities on the African continent. He underscored the Netherlands' role as a vital economic partner for Morocco, highlighting promising prospects for cooperation in trade and investment. Notably, he mentioned upcoming events, such as Morocco's hosting of the 2030 World Cup and the strategic partnership between Morocco and the European Union, which open new horizons for consolidating economic ties between the Kingdom of Morocco and the Kingdom of the Netherlands.
