Brazil-Morocco Defense Meetings in Rabat
The capital city of Morocco, Rabat, recently hosted the "Moroccan-Brazilian Defense" event on June 1 and 2, where delegations from Brazil's Ministry of Defense, along with representatives from various defense sector companies, engaged in discussions with the Fourth Office (Logistics) of the Moroccan Armed Forces. This particular office is responsible for managing logistical matters, supply chains, and material planning, and plays a crucial role in coordinating contracts for equipment and local manufacturing programs. This makes it a key counterpart for Morocco in receiving defense offers.
The meetings were highlighted by the presence of Saif Eddine El Senoussi, the Director of the National Defense Financial Administration of Morocco, underscoring the financial and administrative significance that Rabat assigns to these discussions. The Brazilian delegation included representatives from the Defense Products Secretariat (SEPROD) of Brazil's Ministry of Defense, as well as members from the National Union of Defense and Security Material Industries (SIMDE).
Leading the diplomatic efforts was Alexandre Guido Lopes Parola, the Brazilian Ambassador to Morocco, alongside military leaders, including Brigadier Joelson Rodrigues de Carvalho, the Director of the Defense Products Department. Their goal was to showcase the capabilities of Brazil's defense industrial base. The visit comprised working sessions where companies evaluated the needs of the Moroccan Armed Forces and matched them with their own capabilities in aerospace, space, and critical infrastructure sectors.
Future Prospects and Technological Exchange
The Defense Products Department of Brazil played a pivotal role in coordinating participation, owing to its expertise in classifying defense and strategic products, certifying companies, and overseeing technology, industrial, and commercial offset programs. The delegation featured various industry players, including Segura Defense, Atech, SIATT, Mac Jee, Saipher, and Taurus.
Saipher seized the opportunity to present its portfolio of solutions for both civil and military airports, along with the "Horus" platform designed for space surveillance and decision-making support, indicating Brazil's interest in exporting operational surveillance technology to Rabat.
This visit is framed within a comprehensive defense cooperation agreement and a memorandum of understanding on security that bind the two nations, aimed at exchanging experiences, developing military technology, and combatting organized crime.
In terms of equipment, Morocco is emerging as a serious contender for operating the KC-390 Millennium military transport aircraft, manufactured by Embraer. The Moroccan Armed Forces have already conducted practical tests with this aircraft in Moroccan airspace, paving the way for a potential agreement that would solidify the presence of Brazilian military industry in North Africa.
