Strengthening Euro-African Ties: Morocco and Austria's Collaborative Initiatives

Enhancing Cooperation Between Morocco and Austria

In a significant development for international relations, a joint communiqué was issued following a productive working visit to Vienna by Morocco's Minister of Foreign Affairs, African Cooperation, and Moroccan Expatriates, Mr. Nasser Bourita. This visit was made at the invitation of Ms. Beate Meinl-Reisinger, Austria's Federal Minister for European and International Affairs. Both nations underscored the critical need for enhancing cooperation, partnership, and dialogue not only between the European Union and its southern neighbors but also with the broader Euro-African region. This collaborative spirit is essential for addressing shared challenges and fostering mutual growth.

Austria has expressed its support for the recently released joint communiqué from the 15th EU-Morocco Association Council, which took place in Brussels on January 29, 2026. During this important meeting, Morocco and the EU warmly welcomed the launch of the Pact of the Mediterranean, which was inaugurated in Barcelona on November 28, 2025. This pact signifies a strategic ambition to redefine and strengthen relationships between the EU and its southern partners, promoting a partnership rooted in mutual trust and shared responsibilities. Such initiatives are expected to pave the way for deeper socio-economic ties and more robust diplomatic relations between the regions.

Commitment to Peaceful Resolutions

In addition to economic and diplomatic discussions, the two countries reiterated their shared commitment to finding a resolution to the Israel-Palestine conflict. They advocated for a two-state solution, envisioning a future where two democratic states, Israel and Palestine, coexist peacefully and securely, within borders that are recognized and respected under international law and relevant United Nations resolutions. This stance highlights the importance of diplomacy and international cooperation in achieving lasting peace in the region.
