Morocco and Lebanon Forge New Judicial Partnerships
On October 5, 2026, a significant step towards enhancing judicial cooperation between Morocco and Lebanon was taken in Rabat, where three pivotal agreements were signed. These agreements, established during the working visit of the Lebanese Minister of Justice, Adel Amin Nassar, aim to foster collaboration in criminal matters, including mutual legal assistance, the transfer of sentenced individuals, and the extradition of wanted persons between the two nations. Moroccan Minister of Justice, Abdellatif Ouahbi, highlighted that these agreements are designed to advance the strategic visions of both countries to effectively combat various forms of crime and its associated challenges.
A Vision for Unified Legal Frameworks
The signing of these agreements is expected to not only solidify bilateral relations but also streamline the legal and judicial systems of Morocco and Lebanon. The provisions outlined within the agreements emphasize the necessity of simplifying administrative and judicial procedures to benefit citizens from both countries. Furthermore, the occasion served as a platform for discussions regarding future collaborations aimed at establishing additional agreements spanning various legal and judicial fields. Both parties committed to organizing meetings to exchange experiences and best practices, thereby enhancing judicial administration and upgrading the skills of human resources to meet their collective objectives.
In a statement to the Moroccan News Agency, Minister Ouahbi expressed the significance of the historical ties that bind Morocco and Lebanon. He emphasized that the agreements signed are targeted at bolstering bilateral cooperation within the judicial domain. Both nations aspire to expand this collaborative framework by negotiating further agreements in the future, which would encompass both criminal and civil domains, alongside training initiatives.
Echoing these sentiments, Minister Nassar commended the ongoing judicial cooperation between Morocco and Lebanon, acknowledging the developmental momentum within Morocco and the continuous support it provides to Lebanon. The signing ceremony was attended by key officials, including the Secretary General of the Ministry of Justice and various directors from the ministry, as well as Lebanese officials such as Prosecutor General Ahmed Rami Al-Haj and the Chargé d'Affaires at the Lebanese Embassy in Rabat, Hala Kairouz.
