Super Falcons Gear Up for Women's Africa Cup of Nations
The Nigeria Football Federation has announced that the Super Falcons, the current champions, are making significant strides in their preparations for the upcoming 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON). As of Sunday, only six players had yet to join the squad at their training camp in Casablanca, Morocco. A total of 19 out of the 25 selected players have already reported for duty, demonstrating a strong commitment as they gear up for their opening match in Group B against Malawi on July 28. Head coach Justine Madugu has been actively overseeing training sessions, which have included 15 players practicing at the La Noria Club.
Recent developments have further enhanced the squad's morale, with the arrival of Halimatu Ayinde and Joy Omewa from BK Hacken. Additionally, Osinachi Ohale, a defender from Pachuca Tuzas, along with forward Chinwendu Ihezuo, are en route to join their teammates in North Africa. The squad is bolstered by key players such as team captain Rasheedat Ajibade, first-choice goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie, and several defenders and midfielders, including Shukurat Oladipo, Rofiat Imuran, and Toni Payne, among others. Goalkeepers Comfort Erhabor and Fatima Oloko have also joined the training camp.
As the team awaits the final six players, including defender Michelle Alozie and forward Uchenna Kanu, preparations are in full swing. The Super Falcons, who have claimed the African title nine times, are fine-tuning their strategies to ensure a robust beginning to their title defense against Malawi, setting a competitive tone as they prepare to face other formidable teams in Group B.
