Supreme Court Ruling on Election Results in Taza
The Supreme Court in Rabat made a significant ruling on Friday, June 19, 2026, dismissing the appeal filed under the number 9875/4/1/2025 by Ghazi Ajdiyou, the former parliamentary representative and mayor of Beni Frassen, who is colloquially known as "Bezi Bezi". This decisive judgment upheld the previous ruling from the Administrative Court of Appeal in Fes, which annulled Ajdiyou's election as a municipal councilor in the region.
This critical court decision firmly rejected the defenses and supplementary memoranda submitted by Ajdiyou's legal team, which aimed to overturn the ruling from the Administrative Court of Appeal in Fes. This court had previously validated the initial judgment that declared the results from the electoral district in Beni Frassen, located within the jurisdiction of the Wadi Amil district in Taza, to be null and void.
Background of the Case
The origins of this contentious case trace back to the partial municipal elections held in the rural community of Beni Frassen in 2025. During these elections, Ghazi Ajdiyou secured a seat in electoral district number 16 representing the Authenticity and Modernity Party, garnering 179 votes compared to just 11 votes for his competitor from the Independence Party and 19 votes for the candidate from the Democratic Left Federation. However, these electoral results were short-lived due to legal and administrative challenges initiated by rival candidates and political adversaries.
Ajdiyou's brief return to the municipal governance arena was marred by controversy, particularly due to his candidacy alongside his wife, which sparked considerable uproar within his family. The recent Supreme Court ruling has effectively returned the situation to square one, completely stripping Ajdiyou of the seat he had obtained and closing the chapter on his temporary political comeback. Notably, Ajdiyou had previously faced legal challenges in the financial crimes chamber in Fes, where he was acquitted a year and a half ago of charges related to embezzlement and misappropriation of public funds.
