Alkompis – News from Sweden: A 31-year-old man from Malmö has been detained in Morocco on suspicion of preparing for murder or conspiracy to commit murder, related to two allegations dating back to the autumn of 2020. The suspicions stem from encrypted communications obtained by the police from the Sky ECC service, which they recently accessed.
According to the newspaper Sydsvenskan, the man was arrested on Friday evening in Agadir, Morocco. The Malmö District Court had previously ordered his detention in absentia on September 17, based on probable cause relating to two cases of murder preparation or conspiracy to commit murder. Prosecutor Christopher Östlund stated, "The source of the suspicions comes from encrypted services we have gained access to, which were not available to us before. This material is from Sky ECC."
The man is linked to the “Foxtrot” network associated with Rafa Majid, who is wanted by authorities. The first suspicion pertains to the period between October 10 and 16, 2020, while the second suspicion covers October 29 to November 15 of the same year. It is believed that the planning occurred in Malmö, among other locations. These timeframes follow weeks after a shooting that took place on Delsjögatan street in Malmö on September 18, 2020. The man had been previously detained for years on suspicion of attempted murder and serious weapons offenses related to that incident, but he was later acquitted. After spending nine months in custody, he received compensation from the state of slightly more than 300,000 kronor.
Currently, the two allegations he faces are related to separate incidents from the shooting case. His name also surfaced in the extensive investigation into the murder of a gang leader inside the Emporia shopping center in 2022. Evidence from the case indicated that he was among the first to learn that the gang leader planned to visit the center on the day of the murder, as well as information about disputes between him and individuals associated with the victim. Although he has long been a suspect in this case, he has not been formally charged in court.
According to information obtained by Sydsvenskan, there are indications of more recent crimes against him, but they are not currently specific enough to form the basis for international prosecution, and investigations will continue.
Prosecutor Östlund remarked, "He is now deprived of his freedom there, and we will begin extradition proceedings to see what happens next. Of course, we want to bring him back here as quickly as possible." Authorities are also interested in any information that may be contained on the man’s phone, which was confiscated at the time of his arrest in Morocco.
This arrest follows the apprehension of other individuals outside Sweden with ties to Malmö. In May, a person known as "Moygli" was arrested in Tunisia on suspicion of ordering the murder of a teenager in Rosengård in March of this year. Additionally, in early September, a man was detained in Spain on suspicion of having ordered bombings in Malmö.
