In a continued effort to enhance the Agadir-Taghazout destination, regional authorities officially inaugurated the Taghazout Bay Marriott Resort, just in time for the summer holiday season. The ceremony was attended by Said Amzazi, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region and Governor of the Agadir Ida-Outanane prefecture, alongside Karim Achengli, President of the Souss-Massa Regional Council, the President of the Taghazout municipal council, and the General Director of the Society for the Development and Promotion of the Taghazout Station (SAPST). They were joined by representatives from security agencies, public institutions, the Souss-Massa Regional Tourism Council (CRT), and professionals from the tourism sector.
This new five-star establishment, situated along the picturesque oceanfront of Taghazout Bay, boasts a total of 250 rooms and suites, including 29 suites designed in accordance with the international standards set by the Marriott group. The architecture of the resort is carefully integrated into the natural environment while adhering to contemporary codes of high-end beach hospitality. This ambitious project represents an investment of approximately 250 million dirhams, spearheaded by the SAPST, a subsidiary of the CDG group through its tourism branch, Madaëf. This initiative falls within a broader strategy aimed at enhancing the appeal and competitiveness of Taghazout Bay in both national and international tourism markets. The project further solidifies the gradual emergence of the resort as a key player along Morocco's Atlantic coastline.
During his speech, the Wali of the Souss-Massa region emphasized that this new opening adds significant value to the region's high-end hospitality offerings. He also highlighted the growing trust among investors and major international brands in the Taghazout Bay destination, which is increasingly viewed as a benchmark for integrated tourism projects. Visitor data supports this positive trend, with Taghazout Bay welcoming over 235,000 tourists in 2025, resulting in more than 1.075 million overnight stays. This reflects a significant improvement in its positioning within the Agadir destination. The resort is becoming an increasingly strategic component of the regional tourism economy, both in terms of accommodation capacity and visitor volume.
With the launch of the Taghazout Bay Marriott Resort, the total capacity of the resort now reaches approximately 5,016 beds, accounting for nearly 17% of the overall accommodation offerings in the Agadir destination. This development strengthens Taghazout Bay's role as a pivotal element in the territorial balance of tourism development in the Souss-Massa region. Beyond its impact on accommodation, this new facility is part of a strategy to diversify the tourist offering, aiming to attract higher-end clientele, particularly in premium beach tourism, surfing, wellness, and long-stay vacations.
The officials present praised the coordinated efforts of various stakeholders who contributed to the realization of this project, particularly the SAPST, Marriott International, local authorities, and institutional partners, highlighting their roles in progressively consolidating Taghazout Bay as one of the most dynamic destinations along Morocco's Atlantic coast.
