Tangier Med Port's New Ticketing System
The Port Authority of Tangier Med has adopted a 'fixed ticket' system, which specifies the date and time of travel, as a prerequisite for entry into the port. This initiative aligns with similar measures taken by other Moroccan and Spanish ports participating in the Marhaba 2026 operation, aimed at facilitating the flow of travelers during the busy summer months.
According to the Port Authority, this system has been in place for the past five years at various ports including Tangier City, Tarifa, Nador, and Ceuta. This year, it has been extended to include the Tangier Med port and Algeciras. The implementation of this measure is part of broader efforts to manage passenger traffic effectively and ensure smooth crossings while considering the capacity of the maritime fleet.
Guidelines for Travelers
The port authority has mandated that all travelers, particularly members of the Moroccan diaspora residing abroad, confirm their travel schedules before arriving at the port. Confirmation can be done at the Tangier Med rest areas, located at the entrance of the Tangier highway and near the small palace, or through various apps, websites, and customer service numbers of maritime companies.
Travelers are encouraged to plan their trips outside peak hours, especially on Saturdays and Sundays, as well as during the last week of August. The port authority has coordinated with various stakeholders to implement practical measures aimed at ensuring smooth traffic flow and reducing the processing time for border and customs procedures. This concerted effort involves the continuous mobilization of personnel from the General Directorate of National Security, Customs and Indirect Taxes Administration, and local authorities.
In a statement to the Maghreb Arab Press (MAP), Jaafar Amiyar, the central director of Tangier Med Port, explained that the 'fixed ticket' system is designed to organize the arrival of travelers according to the schedules of the ships, thereby preventing the fleet from exceeding its capacity this year. This measure is essential to minimize congestion and reduce waiting times within the port.
For travelers lacking a 'fixed ticket', they are advised to contact maritime companies to change their reservation date and time or adjust their booking at the highway linking Kenitra and Tangier, specifically at the Tangier Med rest area managed by the Mohammed V Foundation for Solidarity, or at the Ain Chouka rest area near the small palace, just a few kilometers from the entrance of Tangier Med for travelers.
With a significant increase in the number of travelers anticipated, especially towards the end of August, officials urge travelers to check travel forecasts before heading to Tangier Med Port and to avoid traveling during the last week of August to ensure a safe, quick, and smooth crossing back to their countries of residence.
These measures are part of a well-organized effort to manage the reception and transit of travelers, contributing to a seamless and secure Marhaba 2026 process while keeping pace with the growing dynamics of this operation year after year.
