Ten Store Managers Arrested for Selling Unsafe Food Products

Authorities Crack Down on Food Safety Violations

In a significant enforcement action during the first half of Ramadan, law enforcement agencies in Tangier, Larache, Meknes, and Karia Ba Muhammad apprehended ten store managers suspected of selling expired and unsafe food products. This operation was part of a coordinated effort involving local authorities, the National Office for Food Safety, civil protection units, veterinary services, and municipal administrative departments. Authorities detected violations at ten commercial establishments masquerading as bakeries, where they discovered alarming quantities of unsafe food items.

The inspections revealed a staggering 726 kilograms of spoiled meat and fish, along with 384 units of expired cheese. Additionally, hundreds of kilograms of various other food items deemed unfit for consumption were seized, including cooked products, pastries, and sweets. This crackdown underscores the commitment of Moroccan authorities to maintaining public health and safety standards within the food industry.

One of the detained individuals is currently under police custody, while the others are subject to an ongoing judicial investigation supervised by the relevant public prosecutor's office. This inquiry aims to uncover all aspects related to the case, ensuring that those responsible for jeopardizing public health face appropriate legal consequences. The actions taken highlight the importance of regulatory compliance in the food sector and the serious repercussions of neglecting food safety regulations.
