Escalating Tensions at Oulad Tayeb Educational Institution
The communal school in Oulad Tayeb, located on the outskirts of Fes, is currently experiencing significant unrest, primarily due to allegations made by the Educational Administrators Union regarding what they describe as "provocation and harassment" directed at the school's principal. This turmoil coincides with incidents that have reportedly disrupted the academic environment and created confusion within the institution.
According to a statement issued by the regional office of the Educational Administrators Union in Fes, a copy of which was obtained by the newspaper “Adyare,” the situation within the school has raised "serious concerns and strong condemnation." The union claims that the principal is being targeted while carrying out his duties, and the escalating tensions pose a threat to both the stability of the institution and the normal academic operations.
The union highlighted a specific incident that occurred on September 3, 2026, accusing an unnamed "union organization" of "storming the institution's premises during working hours and disrupting the educational process." They argued that such actions are incompatible with the principles of responsibility and respect that should govern union work, particularly in educational settings.
The tension did not end there; the union also referred to events on September 17, during which the entrance of students and the presence of parents were reportedly exploited to create chaos and confusion at the school. This disruption, according to the statement, hindered the smooth entry of learners and wasted valuable learning time.
The Educational Administrators described these actions as "irresponsible," asserting that using the educational institution as a battleground for union disputes could adversely affect students and the overall educational process. In response to these developments, the regional office expressed its solidarity with the principal of the Oulad Tayeb communal school, condemning the "pressures, defamation, and targeting" he faces while performing his duties.
Furthermore, the source vocally condemned the events of September 3, labeling them as a disruption to the institution's operations, and expressed disapproval of the chaos created on September 17 at the school entrance. They called for an immediate cessation of any practices that could disturb the normal course of education.
In line with this, the union emphasized its rejection of what it termed "the use of union activities outside the principles of dialogue, responsibility, and respect for the institution's integrity and the interests of students." They urged for a return to dialogue instead of transforming educational institutions into arenas of tension and protest.
The union also called upon the regional education authority to take prompt and decisive action to ensure the institution operates normally, holding them fully accountable for preventing any recurrence of what they described as "these practices." In closing, the Educational Administrators Union reiterated that the "sanctity of educational institutions, the dignity of administrative staff, and students' right to a stable learning environment" are, as they put it, "red lines," while also reserving the right to engage in "all legitimate forms of protest" to defend these demands.
