Exciting Developments for the 2026 Casablanca Marathon

The Casablanca Marathon is set to celebrate its 17th edition on October 25, 2026, in the vibrant city of Casablanca. This year's event promises to introduce an innovative course, an enhanced Elite field, and a plethora of new features aimed at elevating the athletic and community-driven aspects of the marathon. Under the theme "Vibe Casa," this edition seeks to narrate the story of the metropolis through its rhythm, vitality, and diversity.

For the second consecutive year, the marathon is organized by the Association of Runners of Greater Casablanca (ACGC), with the support of public authorities, and aims to further its growth in Morocco while expanding its appeal to international running communities. The involvement of Crédit du Maroc as the naming partner marks a significant milestone, as the event will now be branded as the "Crédit du Maroc Casablanca Marathon." This partnership underscores the marathon's commitment to fostering a robust sporting culture.

International Recognition and Enhanced Elite Runners

The 2026 edition brings a notable evolution in both sporting and organizational aspects. The Casablanca Marathon and the Casablanca Half Marathon have been officially listed in the World Athletics Label Road Races calendar for 2026. Additionally, the marathon route will receive certification from World Athletics, and the event has been awarded the Elite Label, enhancing its status on the global stage.

This recognition positions the marathon within an international framework that emphasizes organization, safety, sports regulations, and anti-doping measures. The bolstered Elite field is expected to elevate competition levels and increase the visibility of the marathon among both Moroccan and international running communities.

Participants can look forward to a diverse roster of both Moroccan and invited international athletes. Notable female competitors include Fatima Ezzahra Gardadi, Soukaina Atanane, and Aziza Selsouli Alaoui, while the men's field features El Hassan El Abbassi and Edwin Kiptoo among others. The half marathon will also showcase Elite fields for both genders, featuring prominent runners such as Regina Wambui Ndungu and Mustapha Akkaoui.

On the day of the event, three race formats will be available: the full marathon covering 42.195 kilometers, the half marathon at 21.097 kilometers, and a relay event designed as a 10.5 × 4-kilometer challenge. The new marathon route will guide participants through Casablanca, allowing them to experience the city’s iconic landmarks, major thoroughfares, and urban landscapes, enriching the overall running experience.

The day will kick off with the marathon starting at 7:00 AM, followed by the relay at 7:15 and the half marathon at 8:15. An awards ceremony is scheduled for 11:00 AM, with the event concluding by 2:00 PM.

Moreover, the marathon will introduce the "Challenge 421," a groundbreaking initiative focused on inclusivity. This program, championed by civil society and organizations advocating for the rights of people with disabilities, will allow participants with disabilities to walk the final 421 meters of the marathon, crossing the same finish line as the runners on the same day.

To enhance participant engagement, a new mobile application will provide essential information and features before, during, and after the race, including live tracking capabilities that allow friends and spectators to follow participants' progress in real time.

The marathon festivities will commence several days prior to the races with the Marathon Village, located at the Sacred Heart Space in Casablanca from October 21 to 24. This four-day event will include bib collection, exhibitions, partner meet-and-greets, and various sports and entertainment activities for adults and children, alongside eco-responsibility initiatives and health awareness campaigns related to running.

In terms of medical preparedness, the organization is enhancing its medical support system throughout the course, including 16 doctors, 24 nurses, and 12 medical ambulances equipped with automated defibrillators. The goal is to ensure a swift medical response to any runner in distress within four minutes, regardless of their location on the course, supported by real-time GPS tracking and a dedicated command center.

Anticipating an impressive turnout, organizers expect 15,000 participants from 60 countries, supported by 1,000 volunteers over the marathon weekend. With this upcoming edition, ACGC and its partners aim to bolster community participation, enrich runner experiences, and elevate the sporting caliber of the event while progressively expanding its international reach.
